Your spine assessment: where precision spine care begins

Effective treatment starts with understanding what's actually causing your pain. Your spine assessment is the first stage of Maana Spine DTX™. In 30 to 45 minutes, a physiotherapist with specialist spine training from Maana Spine works out what's behind your symptoms and builds a treatment plan around you. No doctor's referral is needed, and the consultation fee is ₹250.

Who will assess you?

A doctor and a physiotherapist going through notes with a patient at a table

Your assessment is carried out by an experienced physiotherapist with specialist spine training from Maana Spine. This is the same team that delivers your treatment, so the person who assesses you understands exactly how your plan will work.

Maana Spine is a physiotherapist-led service. If your assessment suggests you need a doctor's opinion, further tests or a surgical consultation, we'll tell you clearly and explain why.

What happens during your assessment

  1. 1. Your history

We start by listening. Your physiotherapist will ask about your symptoms, when they started, what makes them better or worse, your previous treatments, your general health, and how the pain affects your work, sleep and daily life.

  2. 2. Your symptoms

We look closely at where you feel pain, numbness, tingling or weakness, and how your symptoms change with movement and position.

  3. 3. Special tests

Your physiotherapist carries out specific physical tests to check your spinal movement, nerve function, muscle strength and reflexes. These help pinpoint which structures are likely to be involved.

  4. 4. Review of your reports

We review your MRI, X-ray and lab reports alongside the findings from your physical examination. Scans alone don't tell the whole story: many people have disc changes on an MRI that cause no pain at all. Combining your scans with how your body actually moves gives a far clearer picture.

  5. 5. Your personalised plan

Finally, your physiotherapist gives you a physiotherapy diagnosis, explained in plain language, and recommends a treatment plan. This includes:

  • whether spinal decompression is suitable for you
  • which other therapies your plan will use
  • how many sessions you're likely to need (a DTX program is typically 15 to 25 sessions)
  • what you can start doing at home straight away

You'll have time to ask questions. Depending on your diagnosis and the reports you bring, you may be able to start treatment the same day, but there's no pressure to.

Fees: the spine assessment consultation costs ₹250. Because every treatment plan is personalised, treatment fees are worked out after your assessment, once your physiotherapist knows what your plan involves.

What to bring

Please bring everything you have related to your spine and your general health:

  • Scans: MRI, X-ray or CT reports, and the images themselves if you have them (film or digital)
  • Lab reports: any recent blood tests or other investigations
  • Medical history: previous diagnoses, surgeries and ongoing health conditions
  • Condition history: notes from earlier treatments for your back or neck, including physiotherapy, doctor visits or hospital stays
  • Current medicines: a list of what you take

Wear loose, comfortable clothing so you can move easily during the physical tests.

Don't have scans? That's fine. You can still have your assessment. If your physiotherapist feels an MRI or X-ray is needed, they'll recommend one and explain why.

When to seek urgent care instead

A spine assessment isn't an emergency service. Go to a hospital emergency department straight away if you have:

  • loss of bladder or bowel control
  • numbness around your groin or inner thighs
  • rapidly worsening weakness in your legs
  • back pain after a serious fall or accident
  • back pain with fever, or with unexplained weight loss

Know the red flags

After your assessment

If DTX suits you, your program follows six stages: Assess, Decompress, Restore, Strengthen, Empower, Maintain. You'll typically be treated by the same physiotherapist throughout, with oversight from the senior physiotherapist at your clinic, and follow-up at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after your sessions end. The 1- and 3-month follow-ups are included in your program fee; the 6- and 12-month reviews are charged separately.
